1)After shauch (passing stool/urine) mud shall be applied once on the penis, thrice on the anus, ten times on the left hand, seven times on both hands (which means 17 times on the left hand and 7 times on the right hand), and thrice on each foot, after that it shall be washed with water.
2)The above given directions are for Grihasthas (householders), Brahmacharis (celibate students) shall multiply the numbers by 2, Vanaprasthis (retired householders) shall multiply the numbers by 3 and Sannyasis (renunciates) shall multiply by 4.
3)The number shall be divided by 0.5 if shauch (passing stool/urine) is being done in night time, and while travelling it shall be divided by 0.5 again.
4)Body parts above the navel shall be washed by right hand and the lower body parts (lower than the navel) shall be washed by left hand.
5)The mud to scrub the body shall not be taken from, inside a water body, from a temple, collected by a mouse, remaining mud (from the mud used to cover or as a seat for stool), from road, from shmashaan (crematory ground), already used mud, mud from the root of durva and kusha grass, from crossroads, from cowshed, mud ploughed by a plow, mud collected by ants for their house.
6)The amount of mud shall be at least as big as a ripe gooseberry.
7)One shall rinse his mouth 12 times after passing stool and 4 times after urinating, also 16 times after eating food.
8)The Devatas reside in the front and the Pitra(forefathers) reside on the right thus the water used to gargle shall be thrown on the left side.
